Suggestions that have been carried out

1. Switch the 2 G. Saal uses on Sunday so Kissling/Sunir speak in the morning. (This was already implemented. Noone seemed to object at first, but note Eloquences comment below. Sj)

  • Kissling has a hard time with Sunday afternoon. Can we switch the two Sunday presentations [in the G. Saal]? Or move him to the K. Saal? He doesn't have anything to do with Sunir's speech, at any rate. Sj

the link behind isaac talk leads to isam. The link behind isam talk leads to hossein... Anthere 18:53, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Seems to be fixed. Angela

2a. But maybe we can move the Prestipino/Heller Speach in the afternoon because Sunir talks about communities and Presipino do also. So maybe change it with Magdalinski.

Good point; Sunir changed his topic late. Sj
I'd be ok with that. Angela 21:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

4. Add Douwe Osinga (World66 -- "Getting paid to write free content") where Eugene K was, Saturday morning, 09:30 (along with Thaler's "finding free content" workshop). 15-30 min? Sounds like an interesting conceit, particularly to the travellers in the audience. Sj

this sounds nice for me --PatrickD
agreed. Angela 21:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I've added Osinga, but I didn't understand where EK was meant to move. To E12? Angela 22:23, 31 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

5. Fill the K. Saal Friday afternoon : Move Michael Anobile (presence, good speaker)

i think its already full enough 2 speakers in 90 min. --PatrickD 07:15, 28 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
One is a 15-min speech... I'd like to find another short one to fill the session. But I do like Anobile where he is with the other l10n speech; another 15-min speech should be moved here. Sj
okay one long and two shot presentions would fit. --PatrickD 12:01, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I don't mind, but it's better to have the workshop empty than the presentation. Angela 21:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Now moved. Angela 22:23, 31 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Michael couldn't rearrange his early-evening flight, so has to stay in the morning; unfortunately. Moving him back. Sj

7. Michael Hirschler offers a presentation on Wikinews from the perspective of The European Federation of Journalists and its Freelance Expert Group. Perhaps we could fit him in with Kissling in the G. Saal, and move Sunir to the K. Saal? Perhaps he could speak in the K. Saal on Saturday, with Tim's tutorial. Sj 22:21, 24 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

  • He says he would prefer Friday; checking with him for alternatives. It seems that any day could work. Sj
    • Who is this? Was he ever accepted? I've never heard of this presentation before and don't agree with moving Sunir to make way for unaccepted speaker to sneak in. Angela 19:08, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
      • Indeed. I suggested it at that moment [above], because Sunir/Killian were already considering moving (both had asked about it).
    • We're not going to move any of the key speakers for a last-minute addition, that would be unfair. There's a free slot on Friday 14:30, E12; he can speak in that.--Eloquence 19:11, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
      • There are also a number of free slots outside of E12. The schedule is thinning; let's fill the rooms we have first.
  • Add Michael Hirschler somewhere unfilled. Crowd-pleasing: Sunday afternoon, 14:30, K. Saal.

8. Roland Burger (who responded to the CfP; was quite late with a real abstract and will talk about long-term sustainable education) would like to give a theoretical presentation about Long-term sustainable development sometime on Friday.

okay would fit perfect with comac --PatrickD 12:01, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Would fit better with the Education people like Jan-Bart or Gissurardottir. Angela 21:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Gissurardottir sounds good to me. Sj
Doesn't work now. We already put Anobile with Gissurardottir. However, with cancellations, there is definitely room with Cormac Lawler now. Angela 22:23, 31 July 2005 (UTC) Anobile moved back.Reply
Sj added Burger.

Jama Poulsen (addition)
Add Jama Poulsen somewhere unfilled: Sunday, 9:30, E12. Wikicompany, 15? min. No day prefs. Some interesting ideas: blog feed integration, MWgraph - graph of article and category links. Sj 17:31, 27 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

same PatrickD 07:15, 28 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
maybe sat morning --PatrickD 12:01, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Could fit into Sunday, 9:30, E12.--Eloquence 19:25, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Thoughts from anyone else? Sj
Ok, someone can put him with Wikitution if they want to. I removed my previous objections. Angela 23:00, 31 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Done. Sj

Rince wants to hold a Keysigning workshop on Saturday morning or Sunday afternoon. It will take 60 to 90 minutes. He'd also like a printer. E12 is free Saturday 9.30. Is this ok? Angela 22:56, 31 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Added by Sj.
Fine, as long as we get the file two days in advance (by Friday sometime). Sj
There's now some issue at m:Talk:GPG Signing Party List but I don't know who from since the edit was made by an anonymous user. Angela 21:07, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
I think that was from Rince himself. Combining the workshop and keysigning is simplest; They can always finish up during lunch. Sj 22:21, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

3. Amruta Lonkar can't come. Move Eugene Kim to the K. Saal Sunday morning, 09:30.

don't see how this fit better Sunday afternoon 14:30. --PatrickD
That could work. Sj
I don't understand. Do you mean putting him with Stefan Magdalinski? I don't see that as a good fit. Angela 21:37, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Sunday morning, then; as discussed earlier... we still need to put someone in with Stefan. Sj
Magdalinski is now in the K saal Sunday morning, and Hirschler is with him, so Eugene can't go there. Angela

Eugene Kim is now with Christina Hengel (who was never agreed on anyway).

Final proposal: Leave him where he is. Angela 19:57, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
We still need someone to fit in with Tim Starling, who never expected a 90 minute presentation (and is not prepared for a shorter one, but is working on it). I propose rather to shift EK1 over (or some other session from that day. but EK1 has nothing to do with the library-tech sessions.) Sj
Also, note that C.Hengel is the same presentation as Pfeifer (they seem to intend to present together). Sj
Ok, that makes sense. Angela 09:09, 3 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Beelaard, Pfeifer, and Hengel 6. Add Ronald Beelaard and Barbara Pfeifer E12 for the same session. For instance, Saturday afternoon, 14:30.

I'm fine with that but what are the speaches about?? --PatrickD
Library searching, and OCLC/LoC matching.
very specific but would be okay in this slot.--PatrickD 12:01, 30 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • Barbara Pfeifer : VIAF project (interfacing b/t the local authority files and LoC/OCLC, etc). 20 min, powerpoint.
    • Oppose [Barbara Pfeifer]. Too late, too specific. That's what posters are for.--Eloquence 19:25, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
      • Hmm. She is coming anyway to give a poster (above); and giving a tour of the local library on Monday. I liked this idea mainly because Wikimedia has immediate reasons to learn how to interface with LoC/OCLC... OCLC is setting up their own wiki and has their own wikidata project, etc. It would be nice to better learn how to join forces. Not a big deal either way, but I see no harm in letting her present this too. Sj 17:31, 27 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
I talked with Christina Hengel (also DDB, PND) who phoned me and told her that they can present VIAF at Saturday 14:30 E12 for 20 minutes. -- Nichtich 11:52, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Why did you approve Christina Hengel when she is related to these other people that were already opposed? And why did you add her to the programme without suggesting it here? Changes are meant to be agreed first. Angela 19:43, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad you verified the time with her; it would have been nice to have some more feedback from Eloquence. I'm happy with this time & loc. Sj 21:42, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • Ronald Beelaard. A library presentation : searching in libraries (and card-cat related ways to optimize searches).
    • Looks very confused. Tend to object, but if necessary could fit into Saturday, E12, 9:30.--Eloquence 19:25, 25 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
      • Does seem confused in writing; but is a presentation about what he's actually done, not some clever idea. So he should have answers to any questions thrown out. Sj 17:31, 27 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
      • Would fit as a short presentation but there is no OTRS Ticket (nor a readable abstract) to contact him. Elsewise I would tell him that he has 10 minutes - his outlines seem to be more. Put him into E12 Saturday 14:30 before Pfeifer and Kim. -- Nichtich 11:52, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
        • There is an OTRS ticket. I don't feel strongly about it, but don't think it would hurt.
Final proposal: I've added a "tentative marker". They can maybe speak for 10 minutes but their names might not be in the programme. I also added a ² for Hengel. Angela 19:57, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Again, I would give them a session in E12. Patrick and Jakob seem to agree. Sj 22:21, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Beelaard added as tentative by Sj.

Cancellations

  • JC Tall is not coming. We could have a roundtable on the same subject, perhaps; he seemed interested in organizing a disscussion about Wikipedia in Africa online, and I have heard back from one of his other colleagues who is travelling at the moment but interested in giving feedback. Sj
  • Jeremy Tobacman hopes to have a finished paper, but is not coming.
  • Amruta Lonkar hopes to have a finished paper, but is not coming.
    • Removed. Sj
  • Gabriele Beger cannot come. Removed by Jakob.
  • Joseph Reagle cannot come, with regrets. Removed Sj
  • CS Ang cannot come; he sends his regrets just today. Removed. Sj Now we clearly have room for another speaker then.
  • Michael Hirschler

Not done

Opposed move : Jan-Bart

2. Switch Jan-Bart and Marco Prestipino, Sunday morning, 09:30. Andreas rightly complained he was out of place; Jan-Bart would be a better match for Heller.

But scientific publishing would also a type of creating knowledge. I think the two presentation fit very good together. And i don't think the presentation of Andreas is fitting better to creating knowledge. So please no change. --PatrickD 07:15, 28 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Final proposal: Leave them where they are. Angela 19:57, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Panels, posters and other talks

Panels

  • The Friday morning session on Semantic Web talks and the series on the developing world need moderators. We might ask Erik to moderate in the morning, and Anthere in the afternoon.
As I do a talk I would be unusual to also moderate the session, wouldn't it?
Andrew Lih has not confirmed his status as moderator for the Friday afternoon panel.
Achal Prabhala has confirmed his interest in moderating the Sunday panel.
